Mauyen Port at Itbayat Batanes If you’re looking for an article which will lay-down a detailed itinerary of scenic spots or a guide that will give leads to local bistros, then you should stop reading here. This write-up features the provinces’ charming culture.   The story goes like this…I stayed in Batanes for three weeks, not too long to feel homesick and not too short to immerse myself with the life of the Ivatans. I must say it was a fulfilling visit. Every encounter is a discovery of their humble lives molded by struggles of isolation and simplicity. So here is a list of the things you’ll surely get inclined with about Batanes:   1. Only wear your brightest SMILES: Batanes is a land wherein offering  smiles to every people you come across on the street has already been a norm. I myself also experienced this contagious phenomenon. While roaming around the area, passers-by and motorcycle riders will stop and offer their widest grins to me. I m

So yeah, this always tops my fave book l

Top 4 Reasons Why Tourism in PH will not Improve ‘till 2022

Image
Despite the efforts made by the Department of Tourism in surviving the dying tourism of the Philippines, I must say that these are inadequate to sustain plenty of businesses as well as to encourage a significant number of tourists to fly again ‘till 2022. Before the lockdown in 2020, I used to fly domestically for at least once a month. I was the kind of traveler whose clothes are readily packed inside travel cubes since we are sometimes deployed anywhere in the country. I am also the type wherein I only access my plane ticket on my e-mail whenever I am on queue in the airport. There was also one time that I have to roam around 6 different provinces via plane and boat in just a week. So I guess, I've seen how traveling domestically became a hassle this pandemic. So I want to share the TOP 4 REASONS why the PH will not see any significant boost in tourism anytime soon. These insights were based from my recent travels since the lockdown started in 2020. 1.Requiring tourists an RT PC

Itbayat, Batanes' Bayanihan Culture through Vunung

Image
Possibly, it is safe to say, that we all learned about the term “bayanihan” through one of our thick elementary history textbooks wherein the word will always be depicted by an image of a “bahay kubo” carried by a group of lean tan-skinned men—usually sporting a camisa de chino, tucked loosely with their faded maong pants folded above their knees while wearing their straw hats—kept in queue at both ends of the nipa hut by two parallel sturdy long bamboo sticks lugged on their broad shoulders. For some it may seem as a Herculean task transporting a full house under a sunny afternoon while walking barefoot on uneven soil terrains. And you just can’t help but wonder how these guys are still able to flash those happy smiles amid such tough duty. Perhaps, those genuine grins are a reflection of how they feel inside: the pleasure you achieve when you lend a hand. In a nutshell, “bayanihan” is a concept of assisting your neighbor in an altruistic sense. Literally, it translates into English a

6 Tips to survive the trek to Tappiya Falls, Batad

Image
Some weeks ago, I found myself sitting and snuggling my pillow with my sleepy head on a car’s backseat during a dreary 8-hour drive from the congested flashy highways of Manila to the zigzag rough roads of Ifugao: hail to our drivers for surviving that exhausting trip! But who am I to complain? This quick and quiet weekend chill with some of my fun-loving friends to Batad, Ifugao, was all I needed to free my troubling thoughts. I have been to this province four times before: twice as a side trip to Sagada; once, as a side trip from Nueva Vizcaya; and once, for a medical mission in another municipality with my Mum. But never I have set foot at the calm community of Batad. To be honest, I have this impression on my mind that this would not be as fun as my other trips since I’ve already gone in the locale for a number of times. Lo and behold, I proved myself wrong. Definitely, this short trip would be one for the books.   It diverted my debilitating thoughts to a robust opti

5 Tips to survive inflatable aqua parks.

Image
Some few years ago, inflatable playgrounds started to sail afloat along the tropical shores of the Philippines. I admit, seeing those colorful water playgrounds floating in vast waters under the bright sunshine is such an inviting scene, as if everything is fun and exciting here. Yet, upon experiencing it for the first time at The Seashore Beach Club in San Juan, Batangas, I realized that being on those bouncy floaties is not as easy as swimming against a calm current. More than an adrenaline rush, it requires a focus mind and a tough heart to triumph the obstacles. So here are some tips to survive aqua inflatable parks: 1.Proper attire is preferable I bet that selecting OOTDs for that beach trip is one of the things you sweat out: of course, who would not want to have an insta-worthy snapshot of your sweet escape. But, this is not the kind of activity wherein you should be garbed. Ditch those trendy swimsuit and opt to wear rash guards, leggings, and aqua shoes. R
